2020 Construction Projects

Elk Run Road Resurfacing

Project Description:

The project is planned for a February 18, 2020 letting.

Project limits are from just north of Dubuque Road intersection north to the concrete header just south of the Independence Ave. / Hwy. #281 intersection. 

The project includes 4’ base widening each lane of the existing asphalt roadway then placing a 1” asphalt interlayer.  This will be followed by a 2” intermediate lift of asphalt and a 2” surface lift of asphalt.  Once paving is complete, the roadway will shouldered with 2’ wide granular shoulders and fresh rock will be placed in driveways.  Edge line rumble strips will be placed along the entire length of each lane.  New rumble strip panels will be placed at the Independence Ave. intersection and new centerline and edge line pavement markings will also be placed. 

Elk Run Road will be open to traffic during this project with the use of flaggers and pilot car.

Spring Creek and Indian Creek Road Resurfacing

Project Description:

The project is planned for a February 18, 2020 letting.

Project limits for Spring Creek Road are from Fox Road north to Young Road.  Project limits for Indian Creek Road are from Spring Creek Road east to the Black Hawk – Buchanan County line.

The project includes placing a 1” asphalt interlayer.  This will be followed by a 2” intermediate lift of asphalt and a 1.5” surface lift of asphalt.  Once paving is complete, the roadway will shouldered with 4’ wide granular shoulders and fresh rock will be placed in driveways.  New rumble strip panels will be placed at the Young Road intersection and the Spring Creek Road intersection.  New centerline and edge line pavement markings will also be placed. 

Spring Creek Road and Indian Creek Road will be open to traffic during this project with the use of flaggers and pilot car.

Schrock Road Resurfacing

Project Description:

The project is planned for a February 18, 2020 letting.

Project limits are from Dysart Road east to Hwy. #218.

The project includes a 4” thick cold in place recycling of the existing asphalt surface.  This will be followed by a 2” intermediate lift of asphalt and a 1.5” surface lift of asphalt.  Once paving is complete, the roadway will shouldered with 4’ wide granular shoulders and fresh rock will be placed in driveways.  New rumble strip panels will be placed at the Dubuque Road intersection and the Hwy. #218 intersection.  New centerline and edge line pavement markings will also be placed. 

Schrock Road will be open to traffic during this project with the use of flaggers and pilot car.

Cedar Wapsi Road Bridge Replacement over the Cedar River

Project Description:

The project was let in December 2018. The project includes constructing a new 690'x40' concrete beam bridge to the south of the existing 651'x24' steel beam bridge. New roadway grade will be constructed to connect the new bridge to the existing roadway. Once the new grade is completed and paved, traffic will be switched to the new bridge and the old bridge will be removed. The project also includes rebuilding and expanding the parking areas to the conservation properties on the northwest and the southeast of the bridge. The conservation accesses will be closed during construction. Cedar Wapsi Road will be open to traffic for the majority of construction.

King Road Road Bridge Replacement

Project Description:

The project was let in February 2020. The project included the construction of a 90' x 30' wide Continuous Concrete Slab Bridge between Bishop Road and Main Road outside of La Porte City. The project will be closed to traffic during construction with no posted detour.

Bennington Road Bridge Replacement

Project Description:

The project included the construction of a 34' x 30' wide Beam-in-Slab Bridge between Streeter Road and Wagner Road. The project will be closed to traffic during construction with no posted detour.

Hess Road Bridge Replacement

Project Description:

The project included the construction of a 34' x 30' wide Beam-in-Slab Bridge between Schrock Road and Quarry Road. The project will be closed to traffic during construction with no posted detour.
