This website is the result of years of cooperation between the various offices and departments in Black Hawk County. The development of the Geographical Information System has been supported by the Black Hawk County Board of Supervisors, the Black Hawk County Conference Board, elected officials, and department heads as a long term project. In 1994, the Engineer's Office worked with Aerial Services Inc. of Cedar Falls, Iowa to create the aerial photography. In 1999, updated aerial photography for portions of the county was integrated into the county map. Using the 1994 aerials as a base with supporting documentation including deeds, maps, and digital data, the Sidwell Company of St. Charles, Illinois created the digital cadastral map. Also, in 1999 the final product was available to the citizens of Black Hawk County. Staff from the various offices work together to maintain this system. Information from the Assessment and the Tax Administration Systems have been incorporated with this mapping component to enhance its value. Offices throughout the county government use this data and maps daily. Workstations in the Assessor's office and Auditor's Plat Room may be used by the public to access this information.
The next logical step for the county was to provide this information to the public on the web. This was accomplished through a Government Enterprise Economic Development grant as well as a local government grant through ESRI of St. Charles, Missouri. Working together, ESRI and the county have developed this web site using ARC IMS.
